Wyatt Harman & Mason Ruble were longtime best friends thanks to bluegrass, hunting, humor and a million other things they had in common. When the band Wyatt had played in for a year, needed another banjo player suddenly, Wyatt called Mason and he took the job. They played together in That Dalton Gang for almost 6 years when things changed and they decided to form their own band in April of 2023. They found the players they wanted and were excited about things that were happening and the music they were making. Tragically, Mason was killed in a car accident on October 21, 2023. The band members encouraged Wyatt to continue with what he and Mason had dreamed of , so they did. Calling on 2 of Mason's mentors to fill the empty void on banjo until Mason's family encouraged Wyatt to make the difficult decision to fill the banjo spot next to him on stage with a new player. In June of 2024, prayers were answered and Evan Reed agreed eagerly to play banjo with Wyatt, Charity , Turner and Justus. The band unanimously agreed to keep the Harman & Ruble name to honor Mason. A scholarship was formed to award a youth to attend the Ozark Mountain Music Camp to learn about bluegrass music in Mason's name. 2 recipients were chosen in 2024. The band plans on continuing to raise funds for the scholarship with the sales from their merchandise going in the account. Mason was all about spending time with a youngster wanting to learn and often spoke of those that had done the same for him.
On upright bass and vocals is your 5 time SPBGMA Midwest Bass Player of the Year and 2 time Entertainer of the Year, Wyatt Harman. He makes his home in Florissant, MO where is currently a history teacher at North County Christian School, where he teaches 7th-12th grade.
On fiddle and vocals is Charity. A powerhouse of a vocalist and has quickly become a favorite to the H & R fans. She is a Preschool teacher at a private Christian school. Charity has been singing since she was a small girl and began playing different instruments around the age of 10. She and Wyatt married in 2021.
On guitar and mandolin is 20 year old Turner Atwell from NW Arkansas. Turner is an accomplished guitarist and vocalist. His voice is strong and clear and his guitar talent has been compared to his lifetime hero, Tony Rice. Turner is a kind hearted soul and seems to be the soft shoulder for the H & R Band.
Playing mandolin and guitar from Piedmont MO, is Charity's brother, Justus. Justus won 2nd place in the Winfield, KS National Flatpicking Contest in 2022 and has performed with Po Anna, Kentucky Just Us and even a few Grand Ole Opry appearances with Dailey & Vincent. Justus is also an amazing vocalist.
Stepping into a difficult spot is 18 year old Evan Reed from Neosha, MO. Evan met the rest of the band after much prayer for the "right" person. We feel he is dedicated and determined to continue this journey with us. Evan is learning in leaps and bounds everyday and we are excited to see what his future holds.
2024 Recipients of the Mason Ruble Scholarship for Bluegrass Camp Wynn Freeland and Leah Sanders
Each year we plan to raise enough funds to send a camper to learn about bluegrass in Mason's honor. This year there were 87 students that attended. Wynn and Leah attended thanks to the generous donations that were given in Mason's name.
Feel free to message us about the details of this opportunity for our youth in bluegrass.
Thanks to JR Freeland for helping us out this weekend!
